Details

Dienestrol is a synthetic, non-steroidal oestrogen. It is an oestrogen receptor agonist. Oestrogens work partly by increasing a normal clear discharge from the vagina and making the vulva and urethra healthy. Using or applying an oestrogen relieves or lessens: dryness and soreness in the vagina, itching, redness, or soreness of the vulva. Conditions that are treated with vaginal oestrogens include a genital skin condition (vulvar atrophy), inflammation of the vagina (atrophic vaginitis), and inflammation of the urethra (atrophic urethritis).


Typical Uses

Dienestrol is a synthetic, non-steroidal oestrogen structurally related to stilbestrol. It is used, usually as the cream, in the treatment of menopausal and postmenopausal symptoms.


Side Effects

Some of the side effects of dienestrol include increase in size of uterine fibromyoma, vaginal infection, bleeding, spotting, change in menstrual flow, painful menstruation, premenstrual-like syndrome, absence of menstrual periods, cystitis-like syndrome, breast tenderness, breast enlargement, milk secretion jaundice, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and bloating redness of the skin, eruption, loss of scalp hair, excessive hair growth over the body surface refraction, intolerance to contact lenses mental depression, headache, migraine, dizziness and involuntary muscle movement or reduced carbohydrate tolerance, aggravation of porphyria, fluid retention, changes in libido, increase or decrease in weight.


Drug Interactions

• Dienestrol+dantrolene- Using dienestrol topical and dantrolene can cause serious side effects that may affect your liver. Call your doctor immediately if you experience a fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, excessive tiredness or weakness, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash or itching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or yellowing of the skin or the whites of your eyes.

• Dienestrol+hemin- Ask your doctor before using dienestrol topical together with hemin. Using these medications together may cause hemin to be less effective. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs.

• Dienestrol+lenalidomide- Using lenalidomide together with dienestrol topical may increase the risk of dangerous blood clots. The risk is higher if you are using lenalidomide with dexamethasone for the treatment of multiple myeloma than if you are using lenalidomide alone for some other condition. Also, the risk is increased with age, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Blood clots can lead to complications such as heart attack, pulmonary embolism (blockage of an artery in the lung), and stroke.

• Dienestrol+pomalidomide- Pomalidomide can cause dangerous blood clots, and using it together with dienestrol topical may increase the risk. Also, the risk is increased with age, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Blood clots can lead to complications such as heart attack, pulmonary embolism (blockage of an artery in the lung), and stroke.

Dienestrol is a synthetic, non-steroidal oestrogen. Estrogens passively diffuse into target cells of responsive tissues, complex with the oestrogen receptors, and enter the cell's nucleus to initiate or enhance gene transcription of protein synthesis after binding to DNA.
