Travoprost ophthalmic (for the eye) reduces pressure in the eye by increasing the amount of fluid that drains from the eye. Travoprost ophthalmic is used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure inside the eye. Travoprost ophthalmic may cause a gradual change in the colour of your eyes or eyelids and lashes, as well as increased growth or thickness of your eyelashes. These colour changes, usually an increase in brown pigment, occur slowly and you may not notice them for months or years. Colour changes may be permanent even after your treatment ends, and may occur only in the eye being treated. This could result in a cosmetic difference in eye or eyelash colour from one eye to the other.

Typical Uses

Travoprost is used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open-angle type) or other eye diseases (e.g., ocular hypertension). Lowering high pressure inside the eye can help prevent blindness. This medication works by regulating the flow of fluid within the eye to maintain a normal pressure.

Side Effects

Common travoprost ophthalmic side effects may include redness, swelling, itching, or pain in or around your eye oozing or discharge from your eye increased sensitivity to light vision changes or chest pain.

Drug Interactions

• Travoprost+bimatoprost topical- Talk to your doctor before using travoprost ophthalmic together with bimatoprost topical ophthalmic. Combining these medications may interfere with the pressure-lowering effect of travoprost ophthalmic in the eye. You may need more frequent eye examinations to safely use these medications together.

Mechanism of action

Travoprost belongs to a class of medications called prostaglandin analogue. It acts by increasing the flow of natural eye fluids out of the eye, thus reducing the pressure inside the eyes.
