Details
Tirofiban helps to prevent platelets in your blood from sticking together and forming a blood clot. An unwanted blood clot can occur with certain heart or blood vessel conditions. Tirofiban is used to prevent blood clots or heart attack in people with severe chest pain or other conditions, and in those who are undergoing a procedure called angioplasty (to open blocked arteries). You should not receive this medication if you have any active internal bleeding (stomach, intestines, etc), a history of bleeding or blood-clotting disorder, if you have ever had low blood platelets after being treated with tirofiban, or if you have had any type of surgery, injury, or medical emergency within the past 30 days. To make sure tirofiban is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.

Tirofiban is used to prevent chest pain, heart attack and certain other heart and blood vessel diseases.
Side Effects
Common tirofiban side effects may include easy bruising or bleeding (nosebleeds, bleeding gums) bleeding around your IV or catheter or any bleeding that will not stop. Tirofiban increases your risk of bleeding, which can be severe or life-threatening. You may also have bleeding on the inside of your body, such as in your stomach or intestines.
Drug Interactions
- Tirofiban+apixaban- Using apixaban together with tirofiban may increase the risk of bleeding, including severe and sometimes fatal haemorrhage. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.
- Tirofiban+clopidogrel- Ask your doctor before using tirofiban together with clopidogrel. This can cause you to bleed more easily. You may need a dose adjustment in addition to special testing of your blood.
- Tirofiban+dicumarol- Ask your doctor before using dicumarol together with tirofiban this can cause you to bleed more easily. You may need a dose adjustment in addition to testing of your prothrombin time.
- Tirofiban+heparin- Using heparin together with tirofiban can cause you to bleed more easily. You may need a dose adjustment in addition to special testing.
- Tirofiban+streptokinase- Using tirofiban together with streptokinase can cause you to bleed more easily. You may need a dose adjustment in addition to testing of your prothrombin time.
Mechanism of action
Tirofiban belongs to class of drugs called platelet aggregation inhibitors. It works by preventing the formation of blood clots and thereby helps in maintaining uninterrupted blood supply to heart.
