Tadalafil relaxes muscles found in the walls of blood vessels and increases blood flow to particular areas of the body. Another brand of tadalafil is Adcirca, which is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension and improve exercise capacity in men and women. Taking tadalafil with a nitrate medicine can cause a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure. Typical Uses

Tadalafil is used to treat high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension). It works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels in your lungs which allows the blood to flow more easily. Decreasing high blood pressure in the lungs allows your heart and lungs to work better and improves your ability to exercise. Tadalafil is also available in another brand for treating erectile dysfunction-ED in men. It may also be used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia-BPH).

Side Effects

Drug Interactions

• Tadalafil+boceprevir- Talk to your doctor before using tadalafil together with boceprevir. Combining these medications may significantly increase the blood levels and effects of tadalafil. Depending on your condition, you may not be able to use these medications together, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications.
• Tadalafil+isosorbide- Using tadalafil together with isosorbide is not recommended. Combining these medications may cause blood pressure to fall excessively, which can lead to cardiovascular collapse. The risk of other side effects such as dizziness, light-headedness, fainting, headache, flushing, heart palpitations, and priapism (prolonged and painful erection unrelated to sexual activity) may also increase.
• Tadalafil+nitroglycerin- Using tadalafil together with nitroglycerin is not recommended. Combining these medications may cause blood pressure to fall excessively, which can lead to cardiovascular collapse. The risk of other side effects such as dizziness, light-headedness, fainting, headache, flushing, heart palpitations, and priapism (prolonged and painful erection unrelated to sexual activity) may also increase.
• Tadalafil+riociguat- Using riociguat together with tadalafil is not recommended. Combining these medications may significantly lower your blood pressure. You may be more likely to experience side effects such as dizziness, light-headedness, fainting, flushing, headache, and nasal congestion.

Mechanism of action

Tadalafil belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. It increases blood flow in the penis by relaxing and widening the blood vessels and helps achieve and maintain erection sufficient for sexual activity. By improving the blood flow to the prostate and relaxing the muscles in the prostate gland and the bladder, tadalafil helps to relieve urinary symptoms. Similarly, relaxation of blood vessels in lung leads to lowering of blood pressure.
