Spiramycin is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of medications called macrolide antibiotics. It is used to treat certain types of infections that are caused by bacteria. It is most commonly used to treat infections of the lung, skin, and mouth. Spiramycin is sometimes used to treat gonorrhoea for people who are allergic to penicillin. Do not use spiramycin if you are allergic to spiramycin or to any of the ingredients of the medication or using it to treat meningitis.

Spiramycin is an antibiotic, prescribed for different types of infection. It is mainly used to treat certain bacterial infections of lungs, bones, skin, soft tissues, ears, nose, throat, urinary tract, and brain.


Side Effects

Common spiramycin side effects include fever signs of a mild allergic reaction (e.g., skin rash, itching) stomach pain and tenderness unusual bleeding and bruising yellow eyes or skin blood in the urine bloody stools chest pain fainting or dizziness irregular heartbeat.


Drug Interactions

Spiramycin may interact with amiodarone, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone, bosentan, carbamazepine, cimetidine, cyclosporine, etc. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills.


Mechanism of action

Spiramycin belongs to class of medications called macrolide antibiotics. Spiramycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the bacterial growth or sometimes killing sensitive bacteria.
