Sparfloxacin belongs to the class of medicines known as antibiotics. It is used to treat bronchitis and pneumonia caused by bacterial infections. Sparfloxacin works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. However, sparfloxacin will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections. The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of sparfloxacin. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have brain or spinal cord diseases, heart rhythm problems, heart or blood problems that could lead to heart rhythm problems, or kidney disease.

Sparfloxacin belongs to a class of drugs called as quinolone antibiotics. It acts by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme (that allows replication of DNA), thereby killing the bacteria, reducing its multiplication and curing the infection.
Side Effects
Common sparfloxacin side effects may include loss of taste, nausea, insomnia, pruritus and irregular heart rhythm, vomiting, abdominal pain, dry mouth, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, rashes on exposure to sunlight, flatulence.
