Details
Sertaconazole topical is an antifungal medication that fights infections caused by fungus. Sertaconazole topical (for the skin) is used to treat tinea pedis (athlete's foot) in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Do not use this medicine on anyone under 12 years old without medical advice. Do not use sertaconazole topical to treat any skin condition that has not been checked by your doctor. Do not share this medicine with another person, even if they have the same symptoms you have.
Typical Uses
Sertaconazole topical is used to treat athlete's foot. It is an azole antifungal that works by preventing the growth of fungus. This medication may also be used for other fungal skin infections such as ringworm or jock itch.
Side Effects
Common sertaconazole topical side effects may include severe burning, redness, or stinging after applying the medicine itching or blistering skin or swelling or oozing from the skin.
Drug Interactions
There are no known drug interactions for sertaconazole topical.
Mechanism of action
Sertaconazole acts mainly by preventing the growth of fungi. It slows down the growth of fungi by preventing formation of ergosterol. Ergosterol is an important structural part of the fungal cell membrane.
