Phenoxymethylpenicillin, also known as Penicillin V, is indicated for the treatment and prevention of variety of bacterial infections including lungs and airway infections in children, dental abscess, oral infections, tonsillitis, cellulitis, erysipelas, otitis media, group A Streptococcal infection, rheumatic fever, pneumococcal infection in sickle cell anemia and/or splenectomy patients. Phenoxymethylpenicillin is also indicated as a maintenance therapy for patients who are previously treated with benzylpenicillin injections.
