Eperisone is used to relieve muscle stiffness and pain (muscle spasm) in several conditions including low back pain, painful conditions of neck, shoulder and arm and in spastic paralysis (weakness and stiffness of muscles causing loss or impairment of movement).


Typical Uses

Eperisone is an antispasmodic drug which relaxes both skeletal muscles and vascular smooth muscles, and demonstrates a variety of effects such as reduction of myotonia, improvement of circulation, and suppression of the pain reflex.


Side Effects

Some of the side effects of eperisone include weakness, dizziness, sleeplessness, drowsiness, numbness or trembling in the extremities liver, kidney dysfunction changes in blood counts, skin rashes, itching, gastrointestinal disturbances and urinary disorders.


Drug Interactions

Eperisone hydrochloride may interact with methocarbamol and tolperisone hydrochloride. Eperisone hydrochloride may also interact with alcohol. Do not consume alcohol while taking this medicine.


Mechanism of action

Eperisone belongs to a class of medications called antispasmodics or muscle relaxants. It relaxes skeletal muscles to reduce stiffness, suppresses the sensation of pain, improves blood circulation and facilitates voluntary muscle movement thereby relieving muscle cramps and reducing spasticity.
