Details
Cinitapride is a gastroprokinetic agent and antiulcer agent of the benzamide class. It acts as an agonist of the 5-HT1 and 5-HT4 receptors and as an antagonist of the 5-HT2 receptors. It is prescribed for gastrointestinal disorders associated with motility disturbances such as Gastroesophageal reflux disease, non-ulcer dyspepsia and delayed gastric emptying.
Typical Uses
Cinitapride is used in the treatment of motility-related gastrointestinal disorders like indigestion (dyspepsia), Gastroesophageal reflux disease (frequent persistent heartburn, flow of bitter fluid into mouth, difficulty swallowing, and upper abdominal pain), delayed gastric emptying, and vomiting.
Side Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Cinitapride, which give rise to further complications, include angioedema, gynacomastia, and angioedema. The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute over dosage of Cinitapride include drowsiness, confusion, and extra pyramidal effects.

Mechanism of action
Cinitapride belongs to a class of drugs called benzamide. It works by increasing the movement of oesophagus (food pipe), stomach, and intestines during digestion. It also increases the strength of muscle between oesophagus and stomach.
