Details
Butenafine is an antifungal medication that fights infections caused by fungus. Butenafine topical (for the skin) is used to treat skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm infections. Butenafine is not approved for use by anyone younger than 12 years old.
Typical Uses
Butenafine is used to treat a variety of fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete's foot, and jock itch. This medication is also used to treat a skin condition known as pityriasis (tinea versicolor), a fungal infection that causes a lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms, or legs. Butenafine is an antifungal that works by preventing the growth of fungus. Do not use this medication for the treatment of fungal nail infections.
Side Effects
Stop using butenafine and contact your medical professional immediately if you have severe blistering, itching, redness, peeling, dryness, irritation of treated skin mild stinging, burning, or itching where the medicine was applied.

Presently, there are no known drug interactions for butenafine topical.
Mechanism of action
Butenafine is an antifungal that belongs to a category of drugs called as allylamines. It acts by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an essential component of cell membrane of the fungi, resulting in inhibition of their growth and development.
