Drug Interactions
Administration of quinolones with antacids containing magnesium interferes with the absorption of quinolones. The agent should not be taken with at once. Therefore, the theophylline dosage should be decreased when quinolones is co-administered.
Mechanism of action
The bactericidal action of balofloxacin results from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase which is needed for the synthesis of bacterial DNA. Balofloxacin is efficacious against Gram-negative bacteria. It also has enhanced activity against Gram-negative bacteria.
