Details
Lomefloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It works by killing sensitive bacteria by stopping the production of essential proteins that the bacteria need to survive. It is used to treat bacterial infections. Before using lomefloxacin tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding if you are taking any prescription or non-prescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances if you have had a severe allergic reaction if you have Alzheimer disease, a CNS disease, hardening of the arteries in the brain, a history of seizures, or increased pressure in the head or if you have kidney problems, heart problems, tendonitis, a stomach infection, diarrhoea, or sensitivity to the sun.
Typical Uses
Lomefloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis and urinary tract infections. It also is used to prevent urinary tract infections before surgery. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
Side Effects
Although side effects from lomefloxacin are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away such as upset stomach diarrhoea vomiting stomach pain headache restlessness If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: skin rash, itching, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face or throat, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, pale or dark stools, blood in urine, unusual tiredness, sunburn, seizures or convulsions, vaginal infection, vision changes, pain, inflammation, or rupture of a tendon, tremors, restlessness, light-headedness, confusion, seeing visions or hearing voices that do not exist, difficulty falling or staying asleep, agitation, anxiety, nightmares.
Drug Interactions
- Lomefloxacin+tramadol- Tramadol may rarely cause seizures, and combining it with other medications that can also cause seizures such as lomefloxacin may increase that risk. The interaction may be more likely if you are elderly, undergoing alcohol or drug withdrawal, have a history of seizures, or have a condition affecting the central nervous system such as a brain tumour or head trauma.
- Lomefloxacin+anagrelide- Using anagrelide together with lomefloxacin can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening, although it is a relatively rare side effect. You may be more susceptible if you have a heart condition called congenital long QT syndrome, other cardiac diseases, conduction abnormalities, or electrolyte disturbances.
- Lomefloxacin+crizotinib- Using crizotinib together with lomefloxacin can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening, although it is a relatively rare side effect. You may be more susceptible if you have a heart condition called congenital long QT syndrome, other cardiac diseases, conduction abnormalities, or electrolyte disturbances.
- Lomefloxacin+fingolimod- Before starting fingolimod, let your doctor know if you are currently receiving treatment with lomefloxacin. Using fingolimod in this situation can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening, although it is a relatively rare side effect. This is most likely to occur early on after you start treatment with fingolimod, especially within the first
