Details
Gatifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It works by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. It is used for the treatment of infections caused by certain bacteria. Do not use gatifloxacin if you are allergic to any ingredient in gatifloxacin or to similar medicines (e.g., ciprofloxacin) you have low blood potassium or diabetes you or a family member have a rare heart condition known as congenital prolongation of the QTc interval or you are taking certain medicines for heart rhythm disturbances (e.g., quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone, sotalol), cisapride, a ketolide antibiotic (e.g., telithromycin), a macrolide antibiotic (e.g., erythromycin), pimozide, or ziprasidone.
Typical Uses
Gatifloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic used for eye infections (such as conjunctivitis). This medication treats only bacterial eye infections. It will not work for other types of eye infections. Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
Side Effects
