Details
Framycetin is used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections such as conjunctivitis. Framycetin is an antibiotic. It is not active against fungi, viruses and most kinds of anaerobic bacteria. Framycetin works by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of t-RNA, leaving the bacterium unable to synthesize proteins vital to its growth. Framycetin is useful primarily in infections involving aerobic bacteria.
Typical Uses
Framycetin belongs to the family of medicines called antibiotics. Framycetin is used to treat bacterial skin infections, burns, ear, nose, throat infections, infections occurring after surgery and after injury, conjunctivitis (irritation and redness in the membrane covering the eye), and blepharitis (pain, redness and swelling of the eyelids due to infection).
Side Effects
Some of the side effects of framycetin include burning and stinging, sensitization, local irritation, damage to inner ear, skin rash or allergy due to contact with the ointment, itching.
Mechanism of action
Framycetin belongs to a class of medication called as aminoglycoside antibiotics. It acts by killing bacteria that cause infections.
